Classic Rock Remembers Eddie Money
Singer / songwriter Eddie Money, who had success in the late 1970’s and throughout the ‘80’s with such hits as “Baby Hold On”, “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Take Me Home Tonight” passed away on September 13th, 2019 at the age of 70.

Born Edward Joseph Mahoney on March 21st, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, Eddie spent his youth singing on street corners and playing in various local rock bands. After deciding against a career in law enforcement, much to the chagrin of his father, Eddie moved to Berkeley, California to pursue music. It wasn’t long after his arrival he adopted his stage moniker “Eddie Money”.

While playing clubs in the San Francisco area, Eddie caught the attention of music promoter, Bill Graham, and soon signed with Columbia Records. His debut album, 1977’s self-titled, “Eddie Money”, was well received, eventually selling over two million copies off of such hits as, “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise”, which reached number eleven and twenty-two on the Billboard charts, respectively.

One of Eddie Money’s biggest and memorable hits, 1986’s “Take Me Home Tonight”, would peak at number four on the singles charts and garner Money a Grammy nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. He would also sing backing vocals and the bridge on the song “I’m Alright”, a hit single for fellow musician Kenny Loggins. The song would also become known as the theme for the hit comedy film, “Caddyshack”.

Although his career would wane in the coming years, Eddie Money continued to record, releasing twelve studio albums from his 1977 debut, throughout the 1980s and '90's, up to 2019’s “Brand New Day”. He would also make TV appearances, including comedy shows "The King of Queens" and "The Drew Carey Show", a GEICO commercial and a recent reality series called “Real Money”. He would also venture into radio.

In August 2019, Eddie Money revealed he was battling stage four esophageal cancer. He succumbed to the disease on September 13th, 2019 in Los Angeles.
