The Church Builder

The Church Builder
Noah Smith had attended Hidden Valley Church for most of his life. It wasn’t a big church, but the congregation was close-knit and faithful.

One day Noah read in the paper that a young pastor had moved to town with the aim of starting a new church. Some members of Hidden Valley wondered why their town needed another church.

The young man, Pastor Jones, and a few others rented a space for their new church and began Sunday services, drawing some townspeople.

Noah visited the new church one Sunday with the purpose of meeting the new pastor. Pastor Jones was a young man with a heart for sharing the gospel, and lots of enthusiasm. Noah made sure to mention points that had impressed him about the sermon that day. He told Pastor jones he would pray for his ministry. And he did.

Noah continued attending his home church, but kept in touch with Pastor Jones by phone and stopping by for coffee. Pastor Jones worked day and night getting the new church up and running because the new congregation was small, and not many knew about serving. But the church grew. Noah continued to encourage Pastor Jones, and prayed regularly for him and his family. He also prayed that God would send new members for the little church. Those who were experienced servants as well as many who didn’t know Jesus but needed to hear the message of salvation. He prayed the Lord would bring members with a heart for children to help build the children’s program.

One day, Noah showed up with his lawn mower to take care of the small patch of ground around the new church. And he continued caring for the property until the job was taken over by one of the new members of the church.

The new church grew and soon it was larger than Noah’s home church. Some members of Hidden Valley Church wondered why Noah was so interested in the new church. In truth, they were a little jealous of its growth. They worried Noah would leave them to join Pastor Jones. But Noah told them he felt no need to change his affiliation. He served Jesus Christ with whatever gift he had and wherever he was called.
