Funny Farm
Andy Farmer is an aspiring novelist who leaves his sports journalist job in the city and moves to the rural town of Redbud, Vermont with his wife, Elizabeth. Trying to settle into their new home may prove harder than they think when the town and its citizens are more than they bargained for. Everything soon takes a toll of Andy and Elizabeth’s marriage. The pair decide to split and convince the town’s people to help them sell their home by presenting themselves as a Norman Rockwell picturesque community. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Funny Farm”.
· Andy and Elizabeth venture out into town. While Elizabeth is at the antique shop, Andy joins in on a fishing tournament. He’s sitting on the back of the boat as it takes off and falls overboard, into the water. A few moments later, when he’s fishing with the others, Andy is completely dry.
· Elizabeth shows up at the lake to find Andy. As she’s looking for him, in the wider view, there is no one in the water behind her. There’s still no one there when Sheriff Ledbetter arrives. Andy’s now in the water when the Sheriff approaches Elizabeth with the funeral bill.
· Andy is hiding in the brush with a plan to get the mailman to stop when his publisher suddenly shows up. Andy is trying to get the man to hold onto the bolder. In the close-up, Andy is shown putting brush on the man’s back. It cuts to a wider view when the man asks what they’re doing and theirs is now more brush and dirt on him.
· CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! In the last scene of the movie, a pregnant Elizabeth is walking the perimeter of the baseball field while Andy is watching the game from the bleachers. In the far view, as Elizabeth approaches the bleaches, there are only a few people sitting there. Elizabeth sits down and there are now more people sitting on the bleachers than before.
“Funny Farm” (1988) stars Chevy Chase, Madolyn Smith Osborne, Kevin O’Morrison, Joseph Maher, Alice Drummond, Mike Starr, Glenn Plummer and Jack Gilpin. It runs 101 minutes and is rated PG for language.
