They say as you grow older time goes faster and the older I get the truer that adage seems. This past year seemed to fly by at warp speed. As December 31, 2012 ends and January 1, 2013 begins, you will need to turn the page on the calendar. No one can know what the coming year will bring, births, engagements, weddings and world events will make their imprint on the days ahead.

Almost everyone needs a calendar to track appointments, schedule engagements and keep life in order. Once upon a time you could count on an arm load of free calendars from your local shops. Businesses have a long history of handing out a calendar to their customers as both a thank you for your patronage and a year round advertisement. Families typically ended up with more calendars than they needed, but hey they were free. A large Currier and Ives calendar provided by a local insurance company would always grace my grandparents kitchen when I was growing up.

While free calendars are still out their, they don't seem as plentiful as they once were and when they do appear they don't last long. Now the free calendars are online.

While calendars are a disposable, utilitarian item, a lot of time can go into finding just the "right one." There are many factors that can come into play. Perhaps fitting in with the decor of the room is a priority. Maybe the choice will revolve around the personality of the main person who will be using the calendar. A few weeks after the New Year begins, calendars begin to disappear from store shelves. When the 2013 stock sells out, they will not be replaced.
